Michael, "Mike", began sneaking the old 1956 Chevy, which he had built himself, out of Granny's garage when he was only thirteen years old. He states, "My dad, John Anthony "Tony" Brinkley, started me off by giving me a two door Chevy with a 327 motor, M22 four speed and I was runnin' a 373 gear in it. We would all meet in a little country road and race quarter mile sprints."
When asked how he did, he just smiled and said, "let's just say I never lost my pinks..."
Later on he played two years of semi-pro football, but due to an injury , was forced to decline a Professional Invitation.
Staying true to his up-bringing, Mike went back to building engines and racing his 260 Blown Alcohol Car on every track in the state, even spending time in Rockingham, N.C. on its 1/4 mile professional track.
Anyone that knows Mike says he has an honest heart and can walk the walk and talk the talk. Mike also states with passion..., "all I want to do is race, that is truly where I am at peace. It is my destiny". He also states, "it is not about the money....I'd race for free!"
